We remember the days of running an MSP where hourly services were often hard to find but always easy to justify to our clients. Maybe it wasn't the most optimal or consistent business model, but it was manageable. Then came the wave of the managed services revolution, ushered by several visionary and innovative individuals who truly did the industry a huge favor and laid a foundation for a more prosperous and prominent industry.
However….
It's impossible to know if the founding fathers of the managed services movement convinced us all to evolve for the benefit of the industry or themselves.
Great businesses have been built on the platforms created, including our own MSP and the channel vendor we previously built on the ecosystem that resulted. For that, we are eternally grateful.
With the MSP market establishing a strong foothold of influence in technology decisions and purchasing power for the global SMB segment, it's time for MSPs to start asking for what you need and not what others are trying to sell or build. As an industry, no one knows better than MSPs the struggles faced on the front lines and battles fought in the daily management of your businesses.
As a result, it is up to us, and the rest of the vendor community, to serve you. To give you the resources and tools you need to be successful, focused on the industry's benefit as a whole.
It's time for you to take control of your destiny.
